Youth Projects

Every year thousands of children attend WIZO's network of 11 schools and youth villages.

They are Israelis and new immigrants, diligent students and low achievers, youngsters from established homes or welfare referrals, gifted children and pupils with learning disabilities, who all come together to learn, share, build friendships and develop skills under the auspices of WIZO.

Youth Projects

WIZO's educational philosophy encompasses the ideals of Zionism, tolerance and individuality with an emphasis on character formation and leadership development. Students are encouraged to play an active role in the local community.

WIZO's Schools and Youth Villages offer studies with full matriculation and vocational training. Alternative educational programmes are offered to less academically inclined students.

WIZO operates a large network of Youth Clubs in the afternoon hours. Thousands of children and youngsters enjoy an educational, supportive and humanistic framework that combines homework preparation and extra-curricular activities.
Activities correspond to the needs of the local community and include music clubs, sports, sciences and computer courses.

The Tiberias Municipal Youth Orchestra:
The WIZO youth orchestra is run in partnership with the municipality of Tiberias. It is comprised of 60 talented youngsters and has performed at the Knesset and the President’s Residence.

The WIZO Youth Club in Reihania:
Reihania is a Circassian Village in the upper Galilee area of North Israel, with approximately 1000 inhabitants, originally from the Caucasian area in Georgia. The Youth Club offers a large variety of activities including language studies, traditional customs and a celebrated dancing troupe.

Ma’an - Treatment, Rehabilitation and Educational Center for Youngsters
A joint project of WIZO, the Municipality of Tel Aviv and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. This treatment, rehabilitation and educational center offers a second chance to 13-18 year old potential and actual dropouts from the educational system. Under one roof, problematic youngsters find a range of diagnostic, therapeutic, educational and occupational services that are vital for their motivation and rehabilitation.

Teenage Girls in Distress
Beit Ruth WIZO Shelter for Girls in Distress
This national shelter is a joint project of WIZO and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. It provides a temporary residential safe haven for teenage girls aged 13-22, whose physical and mental well-being is at immediate risk.
Girls staying at the shelter are mostly runaways with a background of neglect and physical or sexual abuse. The shelter operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Half-Way House for Girls in Distress
This is a joint project of WIZO, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs - Department for Girl’s in Distress and the Unit for Problematic Teenage Girls. There are currently five halfway houses, for girls, aged 18 and above. It targets girls who cannot live with their families nor remain in hostels or foster families and thus require an external residential framework. Under the guidance and supervision of professional staff and volunteers, these girls are trained towards independent living.

Therapeutic-Social Clubs for Teenage Girls at Risk
WIZO, together with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, operates 24 therapeutic-social clubs for teenage girls at risk. These clubs offer a supportive and rehabilitative framework to adolescent school dropouts or unemployed girls.

Clubs for New Immigrant Teenage Girls at Risk
WIZO runs 15 clubs around Israel for new immigrant teenage girls at risk.
The program offered at these clubs mirrors that of the regular clubs although with a different approach in order to address the differences in culture, ideology and identity

Project KADATZ - Pre-Army Training and Advancement of Girls
A pre-army program for teenage girls whose scholastic achievements are below par, and as a result are not recruited into the army. The year long program enables them to bridge the gaps and enlist.

’Home Clubs’ for Veteran Israeli and New Immigrant Girls in Distress
WIZO and municipal units for teenage girls in distress operate these ’home clubs’. They operate five afternoons a week and provide individual care, homework assistance and a range of enrichment courses within a supportive atmosphere. A social worker, housemother, counselor and WIZO volunteers operate each club.
